Legal Debate

ELSA Swizerland Cyber Law Day - Do you want to improve your rhetoric and public speaking skills? Do you like to discuss about current affairs? Then this is the event for you!

Dear Members,

We are hereby officially launching the application process for our upcoming legal debate!

Do you want to improve your rhetoric and public speaking skills? Do you like to discuss about current affairs? Then this is the event for you!

A Legal Debate is a discussion of a particular subject of Law, organised in a form of a competition. The Debate is controlled by a person acting as a moderator and a panel of judges, and watched by an audience. The debates will be public, so you might also just attend as a spectator.

Our Legal Debate consists of qualification rounds in Lausanne on 2nd November in French and on 3rd November in Luzern in German. In each qualification round, two teams à three participants compete against each other, and the winner from each qualification will reach the Final Round. The final will take place in Bern on 9th November. Each round will take place over the course of an afternoon, with an introduction, approximately 4 hours of preparation time and 1 hour debate.

The topic of this year’s Legal Debate Competition is CYBER LAW, an interesting and highly relevant field as well as the current National Focus Programme of ELSA Switzerland. The exact topics of each round of the Debate will be made public only hours before the Debate takes place. Due to this, not much preparation is required.

Debating teaches not only critical thinking, but also allows you to engage with current affairs, improve your communication soft skills and hone your analytical abilities. However, besides the personal improvement, there is also something to win! The best team will win a gift certificate of our Sponsor, the Stämpfli Verlag.
